Day 583: Sep 29 Today, there are a lot of important updates from the Tokmak direction. First of all, after several days of relentless shaping operations, Ukrainians increased the physical pressure on the southern line and started pushing Russians further south. However, the intensity of ground attacks is still not at its peak. As reported by Ukrainian fighters on the ground, one of the goals is to ensure the preservation of the personnel – otherwise, the storming operation cannot last for long. Another reason why Ukrainians are utilizing careful tactics here lies in the topography of the region. If we look at the topographic map, we can see that Ukrainians are controlling the tactical heights above the settlement. Operating at a higher elevation allows Ukrainians to find and establish greater and greater fire control over the lowlands, slowly driving the enemy out of the outskirts of the village. Ukrainian drone operators from the 46th Assault Brigade released a video showing how they are attacking Russian positions in the northern part of the settlement. By the way, this is exactly where the 2 Ukrainian soldiers died when they moved around the Russian defense and opened fire at the exposed Russian flanks. The fact that Ukrainians have released not a lot of videos with clearing operations suggests that Ukrainians learned their mistakes and are paying much more attention to this area than previously – annihilating all Russian troops that try to move into the region. Russian military analysts, however, claimed that Ukrainian assault units exhausted their offensive capabilities during the previous series of attacks when Ukrainians entered the village from the north and northeast. In particular, it was reported that the Ukrainian 47th Mechanized Brigade lost its combat capability and was completely moved out of the region. Ukrainian fighters from multiple detachments that are operating in the region promptly disproved such claims and reported that not only does the 47th Mechanized Brigade continue conducting its operation but also that today was actually one of the most successful days in the week because they managed to push Russians further south. And the fighters from the 47th Mechanized Brigade itself released the footage of the recent storming operation north of Novoprokopivka. As can be seen, the assault units were successfully delivered to the contact line with Bradleys, after which they quickly assumed positions in the trenches. The landing operation was conducted with the fire support of tanks in the back that unleashed fire on the Russian strong points, suppressing the enemy fire. As noted by many analysts, the Ukrainian crew inside the tank is also purposefully leveraging the folds in terrain and the tree line to complicate the aiming of the Russian ATGM crews. As of now, the immediate tactical goal of the Ukrainian assault units is to establish total control over the northern part of the village. This will automatically drive Russians out of the central part of the village because it is located in the lowlands and split the control over the village equally. This is precisely the same tactic the Ukrainians used when they pushed Russians out of Robotyne. In order to complicate Ukrainian advances, Russian forces continue conducting airstrikes, predominantly using FAB-500 air bombs. Under such conditions, Ukrainian fighters once again underscored the necessity of operating in small units. This way, Russians simply cannot inflict a lot of losses at a time and have to raise their aviation and use such powerful weapons in trying to hit 3 or 4 troops in a trench line, which is also hard to hit precisely. Unfortunately for Russians, there are even bigger problems with conducting these low-efficiency strikes. Today, Russian sources confirmed that Russian forces accidentally shot down their own fighter jet that was on a mission to conduct an air strike. The pilots did not survive. Later, released footage showed how the intercepted jet fell on the ground. Russian analysts concluded that the “Identification, Friend or Foe” once again malfunctioned, and Russians thought that it was a Strom Shadow missile. And this explanation is quite plausible because today, Ukrainians indeed launched Storm Shadow missiles on the Russian military bases in Berdyansk. In any case, friendly fire remains one of the leading causes of death, according to Russian statistics.

In this video I will tell you what happened on the five hundred eighty second day of the war. Day 582: Sep 28 Today, there is a lot of news from the Vuhledar direction. As you remember, Russian forces conducted multiple unsuccessful offensive operations in this region that quickly became the most notorious graveyards of the Russian tanks. It seems like the Russians gave up on trying to take Vuhledar by storm from the south, which is why the main clashes slowly moved to the north toward Novomykhailivka. The main idea is to penetrate the Ukrainian defenses through the fields, establish a stable bridgehead between Vuhledar and Marinka, and then strike both groups from the flanks. The Russian High Command also puts a lot of hope in this operation because if it is successful, Russians would be able to retake the initiative, forcing Ukrainians to cancel their counteroffensive and urgently redeploy forces to plug the hole in the front line. However, so far, the Russians progress here is negative – after months of continuous Russian strikes and assaults, Russians have lost one field in the aftermath of a Ukrainian counterattack back in August. That is why Russians were forced to develop a new tactic. Recently released footage by Russian sources shows how Russians started launching kamikaze tanks through the fields. And this is not the first time Russians have used kamikaze tanks. Previously, after facing insurmountable resistance by the Ukrainian troops in the tree line, Russians loaded their tank with tons of explosives, the driver directed it toward the Ukrainian position and jumped off the vehicle, the tank got immobilized by a mine and exploded in the field. Today, Russians demonstrated how they improved their suicide tactic. Now, before launching the kamikaze tank, Russians conducted a demining operation under Ukrainian fire, where one Russian tank would clear the path at least through the proximate to the Russians field. Next, Russians brought in one of their tanks filled with tons of explosives and safely escorted it with another tank to the death zone. Once the tanks entered the death zone, the Russian crew prudently jumped out of the tank onto the minefield and tried to escape under artillery and mortar fire while the kamikaze tank continued its movement. Finally, the tank once again was immobilized by a mine and exploded even further from the Ukrainian positions than previously. What is interesting is that Russian sources claimed that it was not an assault but a demining operation, where Russians used a useless tank that they captured from Ukrainians anyway to demine the field. Military analysts pointed out that Russians should have a more effective tool for this purpose – UR-77 “Meteorite” – so, the goal of the operation was likely the same as the last time – to blow up the Ukrainian fortification – and it once again failed. Such an inefficient expenditure of heavy equipment has a significant impact on the combat capability of the Russian forces that are fighting in this region. Recently released footage also shows hundreds of damaged pieces of equipment that are being relocated away from the front. As can be seen, the damage that the Russian BMD-2 vehicles incurred in most cases is substantial, so the repair will take a lot of time, and the Russian mechanized and motorized detachments will not be replenished for a long time. By the way, it seems like very recently, the Russian high command lost faith in the commanders of detachments in and around Donetsk, and with no prospect of moving forward and establishing a sufficient buffer zone between the Ukrainian positions and the railways that connect Donetsk and Volnovakha, Russians started building another railway connection, 30 km away from the front. The construction has already commenced, and it is estimated to take at least half a year if everything goes smoothly. Unfortunately for Russians, the whole length of the planned new railway connection is within HIMARS range, so the construction workers of the railroad will likely find themselves exactly in the same situation as the construction workers on the Antonivskyi Bridge near Kherson last year, making one step forward and two steps back every week. Ukrainian Intelligence and reconnaissance are already monitoring the development of each construction site.

Day 581: Sep 27 Today, there are a lot of updates from the Tokmak direction. As of now, the main goal of Ukrainian forces is to advance in the direction of Novoprokopivka and Verbove, and as recently confirmed both by Ukrainian and Russian sources, Ukrainians finally entered these two settlements and started the next two big battles. However, today, several Russian sources claimed that the Ukrainian attack that the Russians had been preparing for in light of the extensive artillery strike never happened and claimed that the reason why Ukrainians did not deliver their main blow is that they incurred substantial losses. Today, one such Russian source published a video of the destroyed Ukrainian equipment in front of Verbove, claiming that Russians established total fire control over the fields and destroyed most if not all, Ukrainian assault units. In total, the footage shows 28 destroyed armored cars, armored fighting vehicles, and other equipment. However, if we try to find this section of the road, we can see that it is located basically at the intersection of the first and second lines of the Russian defense, which is the most heavily fortified area. So, Ukrainians obviously conducted a lot of assaults on these dense systems of trench networks, which is why we see losses of equipment along the whole section of the road. But the fighting in this area took place between the first and third weeks of August, and once Ukrainians breached and cleared this whole area, Ukrainians rapidly advanced towards Verbove and Novoprokopivka. So, this footage is relative old. It seems like Russian sources did not release this footage for one month to preserve it for the information operation later on, expecting that very soon Ukrainians would enter both villages. Nonetheless, the information operation was not well coordinated because some of the most prominent Russian sources reported two important and contradicting facts: first of all, despite continuous assaults for the betterment of tactical position, the artillery preparation still continued, implying that the main attack is yet to come, and secondly, the elements from the Ukrainian 71st Jagger Brigade, 82nd Assault Brigade, and 46 Airmobile Brigade that Ukrainians relocated to this direction to reinforce the counteroffensive still have not been fully engaged. Based on the recently released footage by the Ukrainian fighters, the highest intensity of fighting is happening around Novoprokopivka. And this is not surprising because Ukrainians had already overcome the main line of fortification from the north and established control over crucial tactical heights around the settlement. Today, Ukrainian fighters from the 44 Artillery Brigade released a video showing how they destroyed a lot of Russian heavy equipment in and around Novoprokopivka. The first target became a tank, which was destroyed with a 155mm shell for distant mining. The second target became a Russian artillery system Msta-B, and its ammunition depot. The third target became a D-20 howitzer with its ammunition depot. The fourth target became another D-20 howitzer on the outskirts of the village. The HIMARS crews also participated in counterbattery fire and targeted Russian medium-range artillery Uragan, increasing the verified Russian losses around Novoprokopivka to 5. In the meantime, Ukrainian reconnaissance drone operators released footage showing how they identified an ammunition depot of the Russian forces in the trenches right behind Novoprokopivka. Judging by the footage, the ammunition had just arrived because Russians were hastily trying to relocate it to the shelters. Unfortunately for Russians, the coordinates were promptly communicated to the artillery, and the ammunition was destroyed. So, the intensity of fighting in this small area is incredibly high, even though Ukrainians have not yet conducted another wave of attacks. The main goal of Ukrainian forces right now is to destroy Russian artillery to diminish Russian fire support when Ukrainians are ready to assault, identify and destroy ammunition depots to undermine Russian defensive capabilities, inflict losses on those who are holding defense and prevent rotation of forces, while gradually accumulating forces inside the bridgehead for the upcoming ground operation.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has just unveiled striking footage that appears to capture a Ukrainian HIMARS rocket attack on Russian artillery in eastern Ukraine, specifically within the Donetsk region, an area previously annexed by Russia. The Ukrainian defense ministry claims that this "precise shot" from a HIMARS system resulted in the destruction of four Russian self-propelled Msta howitzers. It's worth noting that Russia has reportedly lost 272 different variants of Msta artillery systems since the beginning of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine in February 2022. Day 578: Sep 24 Today, there are a lot of important updates from the southern line. First of all, more information became available about the Ukrainian attack on Novoprokoivka. As it turned out, the Ukrainian progress was bigger than expected. Previously, based on the footage of the fighting, it was confirmed that Ukrainians managed to push Russians away from the northern edge of the settlement. However, recently released footage by the Russian side shows that Ukrainians also entered the village from the northeast. The footage is tragic because a Russian soldier managed to get in the rear and kill 2 Ukrainian soldiers. Ukrainian military-affiliated sources circulated this footage to make sure that Ukrainian soldiers learn from this mistake. Nonetheless, the footage served as a testament that Ukrainians have expanded control over the region significantly. Last time, Russian artillery strikes on the northern part of the village confirmed that Ukrainians entered the first 2 streets from the north. By the way, the 2 Ukrainian soldiers from the video were located near these 2 buildings and were shooting in the direction of the 3rd and 4th streets, where Russians were located. But the fact that these 2 soldiers managed to get there means that Russians lost control over most, if not all, fields northeast of the settlement. First of all, it means that Russians no longer control the southern part of the small forest and the nearby tree line because this is where the Ukrainians came from. Secondly, Russians no longer control the tree lines behind the Ukrainians, otherwise, they would be shot from the back by snipers. It is important to note, that even though Russians no longer maintain a permanent presence in these areas, it doesn’t mean that Ukrainians established 100% control over them. However, it does mean that Ukrainians are capable of moving into these territories and conducting much deeper penetrations. And if we look at the topographic map, we can see that this is the part of the village that is the most important from the tactical perspective. The elevation allows Ukrainians to be in better control of the enemy movement. Recently released footage by the Ukrainian snipers that operate in the vicinity of Novoprokopivka clearly demonstrates the advantage. As it can be seen, the Ukrainian sniper is looking down on the field from the hills and easily spots Russian soldiers that stick out of shelters 1236 meters away. In order to facilitate further and easier advancement of the Ukrainian assault units in this direction, Ukrainian HIMARS crews conducted an extensive strike on the Russian bases and command centers in Tokmak. Russian sources reported that the strike lasted for an hour and a half. Multiple strikes on the same targets are made to ensure that Russian forces that are conducting rescue also get liquidated. The number of troops liquidated in subsequent strikes is usually higher when the target of the strike is a command center because Russian soldiers are ordered to rescue the officers from under the rubble. Speaking about the strikes on the Russian command centers, more information became available about the recent comprehensive strike on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. As revealed by the satellite footage from Planet Labs, the missiles demolished the northern part of the building and hit right in the center of the western part of the building. The Head of Ukrainian Intelligence reported that Ukrainians inflicted 25 losses on the Russian military personnel, including generals. More precisely, the head of the command center, lieutenant-general Oleg Tsekov, is in a coma, and, what is even more interesting, the commander of the Russian forces in the Zaporizhzhia region coloner-general Alexandr Romanchuk is severely injured. So, virtually simultaneous strikes on the Russian command centers from Tokmak and Melitopol to Sevastopol made sure that Ukrainians liquidated the whole chain of command – from low-level commanders located close to the contact line to medium-level in the middle, to high-level located in Sevastopol. This also explains why Ukrainians conducted the strikes during the day and not as usual at night. At first, it was surprising to see that the missiles were launched at noon, however, given that Ukrainians basically targeted offices, it is logical because everyone works in the office during the day.

Here, Ukrainians have conducted so many successful strikes over the last several days that the mayor of Kursk decided to cancel the celebration of the birthday of the city. First of all, today, Ukrainian special forces conducted a successful drone strike in this region. The target of the drone strike became a substation near Snagost that powered at least 7 settlements, and as a result, all nearby settlements experienced a blackout. The goal of the strike was to cut off power from the Russian military near the border. Simultaneously, the Head of Ukrainian Intelligence reported that the Russian Volunteer Corps, which is a detachment that consists of the Russian citizens that are fighting on the Ukrainian side, conducted another raid in the Kursk region. The insurgents crossed the border, assaulted Russian border guards and soldiers, inflicted losses, and returned back. Prior to that, Ukrainians also attacked the regional center itself. Local residents reported hearing multiple explosions, and as revealed by the footage, at least one drone managed to hit its target. As it turned out, the drone hit the headquarters of the Russian Federal Security Services. Later, Russian sources confirmed that some drones managed to pass through the air defense, however, noted without specifications that an administrative building was damaged. Another explosion was recorded on the outskirts of the city, near the Khalino airfield. Local residents reported that something hit an oil depot near the airfield. Interestingly, the drones were not spotted in that region, which is why some sources speculate that the explosion happened in the aftermath of the malfunction of the Russian air defense that tried to protect the airfield. And a day prior, Ukrainians also successfully hit precisely this airfield. However, this time, instead of targeting aviation, Ukrainians targeted the pilots and their commanders located at the headquarters in the nearby settlement. Immediately after the strike, some Russian military bloggers started expressing their condolences, which means that the strike was likely successful. Later, Ukrainian Intelligence reported that according to the obtained information from the site, the commander of the 14th aviation regiment, at least one of his deputies, a group of pilots, and a security services representative were either injured or killed. Due to the very saturated week, the mayor of Kursk decided to cancel the celebration with fireworks of the birthday of the city. The Ukrainian drones were also spotted today in the Bryansk region. Some analysts claimed that the drone was used for reconnaissance purposes because it was not the usual model that is used for attacks, so the drone was likely testing the Russian air defense in the region prior to a bigger strike. In the Belgorod region, however, the drones were of regular type. As can be seen from the footage, this is the same drone that Ukrainians used for many strikes, including the ones on Moscow. Local residents reported an explosion somewhere near Dmyrivka, however, due to the sparseness of the region, no explosions were captured on video, which is why the strike was ignored by the Russian sources. But the biggest strike happened in the Luhansk region. Here, Ukrainian forces targeted a huge ammunition depot that Russian forces created on the territory of the former factory. The factory is located in the deep rear, where there has been no fighting since 2014, so the Russians have accumulated a lot of ammunition inside the unharmed by the war facilities. Russian sources reported that the strike was conducted with Strom Shadow missiles that were launched from the Kramatorsk area, 150 km away from the target. Russian analysts pointed out that there were no strikes in the deep rear in the Luhansk region for quite a while, and a rapid shift of focus may indicate that Ukrainians may have some serious plans regarding the encirclement of the Soledar and Bakhmut group.

Russia's Defense Ministry released a photo showing a senior naval commander that Ukraine claimed was killed during its strike on the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet. Viktor Sokolov was shown apparently taking part in a video conference with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and other top admirals and army chiefs. Ukraine military claimed Monday they had killed Sokolov, Moscow's top admiral in Crimea, along with 33 others officers during its attack on the Russian naval fleet in the port citry of Sevastopol. This unit is said to be one of the most combat effective and best Russian units there are. Who exactly is Ukraine up against? In command of this elite unit is 43 year old Dennis Shishov he likely has the rank of Major General he has received a Hero of the Russian Federation medal for his prior actions at the Dnieper River in 2022. Reports indicate “Denis' unit was responsible for seizing and holding the bridge near Kakhovka and reportedly repelled 7 attacks. He received shrapnel wounds to the head, but apparently survived.” To give you an idea of his qualifications he completed Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School in (2003), and training at the Combined Arms Academy of Russian Armed Forces in (2014). My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video I will tell you what happened on the five hundred seventy ninth day of the war. Day 579: Sep 25 Today, there are a lot of important updates from the Tokmak direction. First of all, today, Russian sources admitted that Ukrainian forces advanced toward Novoprokopivka, established control over the last fields in front of the settlement, and entered the settlement itself. However, it was not the only settlement that Ukrainians finally entered in this direction. Today, it was finally confirmed that Ukrainians also entered Verbove and officially started the second big battle in this region. Recently released combat footage by the Russian side revealed how a Ukrainian armored fighting vehicle was exiting Verbove. Unfortunately, the vehicle got on a mine, which is why Russians published the video, but based on the practice with western armored fighting vehicles, the crew likely survived. Since the vehicle was exiting the village, it means that it successfully delivered additional assault units to the settlement and that Ukrainians got a foothold in the northern part of the settlement. Later, Ukrainian sources confirmed that Ukrainian forces managed to advance in this direction. Such an advancement was only possible because Ukrainians cleared almost all trenches and fortifications on the second line of defense around the village. As you can see, the supply road that Ukrainians used to deliver their assault units is located right between the two lines of fortifications. By establishing control over them, Ukrainians secured their flanks and gained some room for maneuver. But they also did not stop there and continued to widen the bridgehead. Today, Ukrainian fighters from the 71st Brigade released a video showing how they were repelling a Russian counterattack after they successfully captured and cleared one more Russian trench network. Ukrainians managed to rebuff the attack and retain control over the newly captured positions, continuing the gradual but steady movement forward. Other Ukrainian fighters released a video where they tested a prototype of an anti-personnel mine-clearing drone. This drone would be useful for clearing the newly captured area from mines, especially the trails, to avoid losses when moving between friendly positions. Ukrainian drone operators published a video showing how they are conducting artillery preparation on the remaining section of the Russian defense line. The attacks imply that Ukrainians will continue conducting broad attacks to make sure to fix Russian troops along the front before penetrating the main direction. Today, Ukrainian drone operators also spotted a whole platoon of Russian tanks on the Ukrainian flanks. At first glance, it seemed like Russians were preparing for a heavy counterattack, however, when the drone operator zoomed in, he revealed that these were inflatable balloons in the form of tanks. As it turned out, Russian forces tried to create a semblance of readiness and possibly force Ukrainians to relocate additional forces to protect their flanks instead of pushing Russians out of Verbove. Some analysts claimed that the goal was to make Ukrainians use up their shells on false targets, but in this case, Russians did not put any effort into masking them in a believable enough way and just put them in the open so that Ukrainian reconnaissance teams notice them as soon as possible, and raise a false alarm. Unfortunately for Russians, it was a waste of time. In the meantime, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky finally confirmed that Abrams tanks arrived in Ukraine. He said that the Defense Ministry had already received the tanks and was preparing them for reinforcing brigades that are conducting the counteroffensive operation. And the modern western tanks make a huge difference on the front due to their advanced guns that have a range of 4 km, which allows these tanks to act like snipers. If a Ukrainian assault team faces difficulties with a particular fortification, it takes the tank about 8 minutes at maximum speed to get to the firing position and unload dozens of high-explosive shells while still being multiple km away from the target, minimizing the chances of getting detected. And this tactic proved to work, as the defenses are gradually breached, while losses of these tanks were reduced almost to zero.

But the latest contribution to the genre comes not from Hollywood, but a Ukrainian drone unit that managed to fly to manoeuvre a UAV waist-height into the front door of a Russian bunker.
